who is your favorite young adult author?

A recent survey posted over at The Guardian shows that Roald Dahl is the favorite young adult author among people ages 16 to 34. While I have to admit to having a certain fondness for Dahl and his wonderful creations, C.S. Lewis, for me at least, will always hold the number one spot in my heart.

I remember reading A Horse and His Boy for the first time and how I longed to have a talking horse take me for an adventure. The list below is the top ten authors from the survey, is your favorite among them? What books did you read and love growing up?

  1. Roald Dahl
  2. C.S. Lewis
  3. J.M. Barrie
  4. J.K. Rowling
  5. Anthony Horowitz
  6. Jacqueline Wilson
  7. Dr. Seuss
  8. Philip Pullman
  9. Francesca Simon
  10. Enid Blyton

Hi Katie! No telling if I'll get Yellowcard tickets just now (fingers crossed!). I'd love to say hi to you sometime though, I'm a student of Mel Odom and he's recommended your blog to me several times. It'd be cool to meet up sometime!

I grew up reading Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Bram Stoker. I know not young adult authors but those are the writers I started with. Of the list you have I read Roald Dahl, C.S. Lewis, and Dr. Seuss when I was young with Dahl probably being my favorite.

Definitely C.S. Lewis, as well as Rowling.. I love discovering talented new young adult authors even more than new scifi/fantasy authors!

J.K. Rowling, though Dr. Seuss was a big one in kindergarten. He was my hero.

Meg, that was nice of Mel to recommend my blog. :) The old one was better but oh well. Sorry about the tickets. Sometimes they do 2nds and sometimes they don't. Good luck with everything else though.

Cee, those are some of the best to grow up with. Doyle and Stoker I mean. Good stuff.

Angela, me too! I'm always looking for another fantasy YA.

Sevenine, Dr. Seuss was a favorite of mine as well. I always loved the drawings.

I learned to read from Dr. Seuss. My Mom would pull out a chalkboard and we'd take one book at a time; she'd write out the words in chalk and have me sound them out.

Dr. Seuss was one of my kids' favorites along with Laura Ingels Wilder's Little House books. As for myself, my folks had few books in the house. Its bad when all you can remember are the Dick & Jane reading books!

What about Judy Blume, Lucy Maud Montgomery (Anne of Green Gables), Millie Benson and Carolyn Keene (Nancy Drew) While I enjoyed books by many of those authors, they've left off some of my favs and added some I've never heard of. Who did they survey for this anyway?

As far as the know the survey was done in the UK. The link in the post takes you to the article.

Well,,, i grew up reading a lot of comics and any popular fiction i began with was Stephen King, and he is still way up there in my fav authors.

Though i'm surprised i didn't see eoin colfer's name in the list, his supernaturalist and wish-list are awesome for young adults!

Nothingman, you know I have never read Stephen King. I've got a few titles in my TBR pile... I'll have to move those to the top.

Kahnee, haven't read Madelein L'Engle and Ursula K Le Guin altought I've heard a lot about their books. More names I need to add to my stack.
